Which class should you recruit?
A role-first look at Warrior, Mage, Archer, Shadowblade, Monk, and Priest with tier rankings and build paths.
Choose a job, not a tier list
The six classes solve different problems. A strong party is usually the one that covers the current obstacle, rather than the one that follows a universal ranking. However, understanding each class tier helps you prioritize recruitment resources.
Class tier overview
S-tier: The best choices available, offering unmatched utility and flexibility.
A-tier: Suitable alternatives to S-tier with specific strengths.
B-tier: Situational choices that require top-class teams to shine.
- S-Tier: Cleric (essential healer/buffer), Warrior (tank/summoner hybrid)
- A-Tier: Mage (ranged AoE damage), Priest (complex melee/support hybrid)
- B-Tier: Hunter (single-target ranged, one-dimensional)
- Unranked: Mercenary (high damage alternative to Warrior, less tested)
S-Tier Classes
Cleric: The most important class in any team. Provides sustained heals, ally buffs, crowd control, and decent damage. Essential for higher difficulties—useless alone but indispensable in a squad. Focus talents and gear on strengthening heals. Has enough health to survive unlike glass cannon supports.
Warrior: Melee frontline with unmatched flexibility. Key ability: Iron Guard summons warhammer-wielding guards that deal damage and absorb hits, effectively expanding your squad beyond the three-member cap. Can play hybrid tank/DPS roles. Offers the most build freedom of any melee class.
A-Tier Classes
Mage: Ranged damage dealer and perhaps the easiest class to manage. Specializes in elemental attacks with strong AoE capabilities for clearing grouped enemies. Preferred over Hunter for most content due to superior area damage. Low health pool requires protection.
Priest: One of the most complex classes, combining magical abilities with melee combat. The Bone Chill build allows outstanding DPS while supporting allies. Complexity prevents higher ranking, but in skilled hands can rival S-tier performance.
B-Tier and Specialist Classes
Hunter: Standard archer dealing decent ranged damage, but suffers from relatively one-dimensional builds. Less flexible than Mage. Viable as a straightforward damage option when you prefer single-target over AoE.
Mercenary: Alternative melee option trading Warrior's survivability for higher damage output. Untested in most tier lists but offers a riskier, more aggressive frontline option for experienced players.
A practical first pick
Pick Warrior when survival is the issue, Cleric when your party collapses after fights, and Mage when grouped enemies are the problem. Re-evaluate after the next Monolith objective instead of treating the first pick as permanent.
Recruitment strategy: Build six heroes total (not three) because you run two battle lines simultaneously. Spread resources across all six from the start—slower initially but much faster long-term than concentrating on three dominant heroes who leave your second line weak.
