The complete beginner path
A calm first-hour route through your first class, upgrades, and idle loop.
Start with the active objective
The Monolith is your best early compass. Read the active objective before spending materials, then complete the smallest action that advances it. This prevents early resources from being locked into a plan the game has already moved past.
Early game focus should be on unlocking the core town systems: the Prison for hero recruitment, the Temple for Baptisms, and the Workshop for gear improvements. Each system opens new possibilities, so work toward unlocking them in order.
Choose your first class wisely
Your first class choice shapes the entire early experience. The two best starting options are Warrior or Cleric:
• Warrior: Can summon extra support units (Iron Guard) mid-fight, adding bodies beyond the three-member cap. This increases your effective squad size and survivability.
• Cleric: Buffs your entire line and provides sustained healing. A healer is non-negotiable for harder content, making Cleric an excellent foundation.
Both classes offer forgiving early gameplay. Avoid starting with glass cannon classes like Hunter until you understand the combat flow.
The golden rule: Upgrade Prison first
Before recruiting any heroes, upgrade your Prison. This is the most critical early-game decision.
Why it matters: Prison upgrades only raise the starting stats of heroes recruited AFTER the upgrade. Heroes recruited at low Prison levels are permanently weaker and will eventually need to be replaced.
Recommended approach:
• Upgrade Prison to at least level 3-5 before mass recruiting
• Look for heroes with summon abilities (Iron Guard, etc.) as extra units are powerful and cost nothing extra
• Prioritize Clerics and Warriors with good starting stats
• Save Ancient Blood for later—focus on gold-based Prison upgrades first
Build a repeatable first hour
Choose one dependable damage path, keep a durable frontline, collect offline rewards, and check every new tooltip. The goal is not a perfect build; it is a loop you can repeat without running out of useful actions.
- Check the Monolith objective and complete the smallest advancing action
- Claim offline and town rewards (the game runs full-auto in background)
- Upgrade Prison before recruiting new heroes
- Pour spare gold, blood, and bone into Worshipper Infusion (permanent account-wide stats)
- Upgrade the bottleneck, not every slot
- Save rare materials until a system asks for them
- Build six heroes total, not just three (you run two battle lines simultaneously)
Resource priority for beginners
Gold: Spend on Prison upgrades first, then Worshipper Infusion. These provide permanent benefits that never become obsolete.
Ancient Blood: Do not spend immediately on Baptisms. Raise the Temple level first to increase the cap for all heroes and reduce Baptism costs.
Sacred Bones: Use for Workshop upgrades to unlock higher gear tiers and better affixes.
Gear: Wear orange gear for best raw stats. Bank green set pieces in Storage—do not chase sets early as incomplete sets weaken your team.
What to ignore for now
Do not chase old demo-era tier lists or copy a late-game setup before you know its costs. Early progress comes from clear objectives and consistent upgrades.
Avoid these common beginner mistakes:
• Do not recruit heroes immediately at Prison level 1
• Do not spend Ancient Blood on Baptisms before upgrading Temple
• Do not wear incomplete green sets (orange gear is stronger individually)
• Do not ignore Storage limits—sell junk regularly
• Do not try to actively play battles—this is an idle game that runs in real-time
